Located 14 km outside of Golden, Kicking Horse is a four season resort nestled within the famous Rocky Mountains. Starting its life as the smaller Whitetooth Ski Area, the resort is now growing into what is expected to be the largest resort in Canada.
Kicking Horse is currently home to the second highest vertical drop North America at 4,133 feet, the best heli-skiing in the country and over 4,000 acres of skiable terrain. The resort provides an incredible variety of terrain: three massive, high alpine bowls; a mix of chutes, glades and steep terrain.
This destination has long been a secret for extreme winter sport enthusiast but a variety of long, soft groomed slopes and gentle runs for beginners offer a more tame option for families.
Due to the high-level moisture and sun, combined with dry, low-level air, Kicking Horse creates the ultimate champagne powder. On average the area receives 23 ft of snow per year.
There are a number of bars and restaurants dotted around the mountain terrain which are ideal for après ski fun, but the resort itself also offers a variety of options too. Nearby Golden also provides other night time options at just a short drive away.
Pure Destinations says...
"Although Kicking Horse is well known amongst the knowledgeable fraternity of worldwide skiers, in a few years it will rival Whistler in terms of scale and quality. It is a great time to go there now as the snow and variety of terrain make it one of the stand out resorts of the Rockies.
For those who love a mix deep, fresh powder and well groomed pistes it is a must. As it is an up and coming location, there are also some fantastic accommodation deals to take advantage of."
